Shira Blumenthal launched the #HatNotHate campaign with anti-bullying initiatives -- she encourages others to participate by making blue hats that represent October's Bullying Prevention and Awareness month. Blumenthal was bullied as a child and she channels these traumatic experiences into something that can positively help others in the situation. She speaks on the matter, "we’ve all been affected by bullying in one way or another. #HatNotHate is just helping us take a stand to it and we’re bringing awareness to it."
Creating hats was the choice impacted by a few factors -- it makes a strong statement to see a crowd wearing the same hat, unraveling "e" in "hate" is "hat." She recognizes the empowering group as her "blue soldiers" and has received over 23,000 hats in just 2019 alone. Blumenthal explains, "every hat is different just like we are as people but what brings us all together is we’re all human. We all have bones, we all have blood, we all have organs. We’re all human, but we’re all different. Not one of us is the same. It’s just like those hats. They’re all blue, but each and everyone is different. That’s what makes it so special."
