At this year's London Design Festival, a number of leading designers are showing off inventive glassware pieces that demonstrate innovative manufacturing techniques—including Ron Arad's collection of whimsical hand-blown glass vases.
'Where Are My Glasses' is a series of objects that integrate a familiar, functional form into colorful blue vessels. As the designer has made glasses for the face and decorative glassware designs, this new series of objects offers a playful fusion on his previous creations. In reference to the clever designs, Arad comically jests, "Where are my glasses? Well, it's transparent!"
Due to changes in modern manufacturing technology, designers are now able to create many experimental kinds of glassware—including plenty of unique hybrids that fuse different materials—despite traditional glassblowing tools remaining more or less the same.
