Coca-Cola announced recently that it will be phasing out its singature green plastic bottle true to Sprite as of August 1st. It has been the signature packaging in the last six decades and the new change stems from sustainable efforts.
Speaking about the transition, Julian Ochoa, CEO of R3cycle which is one of the recycling companies that works with the brand, states that "Taking colors out of bottles improves the quality of the recycled material [...] This transition will help increase the availability of food-grade rPET. When recycled, clear PET Sprite bottles can be remade into bottles, helping drive a circular economy for plastic." The brand will also be following up with Fresca, Seagram, and Mello Yello bottle transitions.
