The Gravity Light is an IndieGoGo.com start-up project that is designed to help villages in developing countries decrease their dependency on kerosene lamps.
Currently, the project is a little over $10,000 away from its fundraising goal of $55,000. The light itself is powered by 3 seconds of weight lifting. A bag of earth or rocks is hung from the bottom of the Gravity Light. The energy created by the bag being pulled down (by gravity) manufactures enough energy to power the light for 30 minutes.
The light itself has modifications which allow it to transfer its energy to charge other devices. You can also apply fixtures to the light to turn it into a soft or bright light. The idea is to create 1,000 Gravity Lights and give them to poor villages so they can stop using kerosene lamps.
