Google, not satisfied with having cars buzzing around getting super sharp street views, wants super sharp satellite views. Soon they will be buying image data
from GeoEye. GeoEye is launching a satellite with the highest resolution "pan-sharpened" format.
GeoEye-1 weighs in at 4,300 pounds and will be able to show detail as small as 41 centimeters from a view 420 miles above the earth.
"It is our goal to display high-resolution imagery for as much of the world as possible," said Google spokeswoman Kate Hurowitz.
Google says they will use the images to enhance their commercial mapping.
