Get REAL Movement Debuts 'The Hoodie Cam' Campaign

The Get REAL Movement, an organization dedicated to "combatting 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination & racism in schools and workplaces," recently launched the 'The Hoodie Cam' campaign in collaboration with DonerNorth. The new initiative is an educational advocacy campaign to raise awareness of our rights to film the police.

The "Hoodie Cam'' will debut March 21, 2022, International Day for the Elimination of Racism, as a microsite that features information about the public's right to film police, interviews with Black individuals who have experienced police violence, and a virtual roundtable with attorneys Nathaniel Marshall and Anthony N. Morgan to explain the importance of knowing your rights. Five dollars from every shirt sold will be donated to Colin Kaepernick's "Know Your Rights Camp."

"Growing up, I had an encounter with police that was terrifying - because of the power the police hold, because of the words, and slurs, that the officers were calling me, and because there was no one around to see or to help me", says Chris Studer, Executive Director of the Get REAL Movement. "I didn’t want to reach for my phone at that moment, because I was scared, but I do wish it had been caught on film."
