Parcel Delivery Drones

The GeoDrone is Being Tested By French Mail Service La Poste

The GeoDrone project is an effort by GeoPost -- the express delivery arm of French mail service La Poste -- to incorporate parcel delivery drones into its service. Testing recently took place at the Centre d'Etudes et d'Essais pour Modeles Autonomes (CEEMA) in September.

The electric delivery drones used in the GeoDrone project are capable of autonomously transporting parcels with dimensions up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm and 9 pounds in weight within a 20 km radius. The project is focusing on using the drones to access isolated areas such as mountains, islands and isolated rural areas.

A six-rotor drone prototype was used to successfully transport a 2 kg package over a distance of 1.2 km at the CEEMA site in the south of France.
