Marseille-based artist Gaelle Villedary has rolled out his 'Tapis Rouge,' an over-sized grass carpet throughout the southern French town of Jaujac. It weighs a total of 3.5 tonnes, is made up of 168 separate rolls and spans 1400 feet. This was certainly no small undertaking for Gaelle Villedary.
It makes sense that Gaelle Villedary would decide to install his creation in a small town rather than a big city; the effect of these long sheets of grass snaking through the narrow streets and small squares of Jaujac rather than amongst the grande avenues of Paris or Marseille is that much more striking. If the installation were placed in Paris or Marseille, the 'Tapis Rouge' would be curious, no doubt, but it could just as easily be lost in the noise.Photo Credits: designboom, gaellevilledary.net
