Marks-Lloyds Furs, Denver’s oldest furrier, takes an inventive approach to the classic lookbook to showcase its Winter Fur Collection. Photographed in an ice castle in Colorado, the majestic structure was designed by artist Brent Christensen, and proves to be the perfect backdrop for this dramatic photo shoot.
ML Furs drew upon inspiration from movies like Anna Karenina and the classic Dr. Zhivago when styling the collection. The looks were influenced by the Fall/Winter 2013 runway shows; the jewel tones contrasted with beiges and nudes, heavy brows, and the almost ombre hair, to create an old world theme but with a decidedly modern twist.
The look book goes beyond an advertorial, telling a story with the setting, lighting, makeup and styling to create a whimsical world that is open to the viewer's interpretation. Pushing the boundaries of tradition, notably the Bridal gown at the end, emanates a darker feel. The last shot with the Russian red bridesmaid dress seems to represent the ending of both classic movies referenced for inspiration, representing the destruction and despair of the main characters with dark lighting, setting it apart from the rest.
