The multinational architecture company Populous is poised to revitalize an aging French soccer stadium by incorporating repurposed airplane parts to provide a fresh, vibrant and comfortable environment in which to enjoy soccer matches.
The renovation of the Stade de la Meinau in the city of Strasbourg is perhaps most noteworthy due to the fact that it will make use of 4,400 square meters of old Airbus aircraft fuselage portions in constructing part of the stadium facade.
This reinvigorated French soccer stadium will also make use of around one square kilometer of photovoltaic panels, a rainwater recycling system, LED lighting and active recycling initiatives. These eco-friendly features, in addition to the recycling of old airplane parts, makes this a truly sustainable and innovative project that could show the way forward for future sports stadium and arena transformations.
