As one of Toronto's premier food events and promotions companies, 'Foodies on Foot' is leading the way when it comes to creating innovative culinary experiences. From fine dining in Trinity Bellwoods Park to street food in Graffiti Alley, Foodies on Foot combines some of the city's tastiest eats with its most unforgettable venues.
Trend Hunter recently had a chance to sit down with Foodies on Foot founder Steven Hellmann to discuss some of the biggest and most influential food trends for 2017. One of the first trends Hellmann identifies is that of 'plant butchery,' which refers to the process of "taking classic vegetarian foods and turning them into products that meatatarians would like." In other words, plant-based burgers and steaks are likely to become a staple at summer BBQs from here on out.
Hellmann also points to 'experiential food events' as another industry-defining trend for 2017. He explains that brands are increasingly looking for ways to create "unique experiences around food rather than just the traditional sit-down dinner." This can include everything from immersive cocktail-making workshops to in-house cooking classes that combine delicious food with practical knowledge.
In an age when consumers are just as concerned about their overall dining experience as they are with the taste of their food, it is clear that foodie culture is undergoing a major transformation.
