While rave party glow-in-the-dark sticks are only made to last for a couple hours, Jon Liow's 'Glow' lamp is designed to have an after-glow of up to five hours and carry on lighting for up to 10 years. Using modern phosphorescent material, Glow, according to Liow, is a "low-cost, low-maintenance and low-tech solution to the global lighting problem."
The Glow light uses a bright neon green light and absorbs natural environmental light like sunlight in order to power it. Comparable to a 600 ml bottle, the device is durable, easily transportable and safe for use by anyone. While Liow admits that Glow is not a long-term replacement for current light sources, he hopes that it can provide an alternative light source for those who may have limited access to light or be used in disaster or crisis zones.
