To augment Flickr's redesign, Yahoo commissioned designer Charis Tsevis to create brand new retro Flickr avatars. Tsevis took on the the project with great flair while drawing on Neo-futurism and an extensive color pallet to create futuristic gadget depictions. The new graphics will replace the default avatar used when a user chooses not to upload one.
Each of the graphics was built to reflect Flickr's core values. The drawings of photographic devices reflect the site's photocentric services. The vibrant colors that Tsevis used includes Flickr's brand colors. In addition, the unique design reflects the individualism and personalization that Flickr advocates for.
Each graphic was a challenge to make for Tsevis as the avatars have to be scalable. Every design has to look great in 48 by 48 pixel form. As a result, the avatars were made to be well-defined with bold colors.
