Thanks to Fiberio's fingerprint recognition software for tabletop touchscreens, you won't need to worry about lugging your laptop around for much longer.
German scientists Christian Holz and Patrick Baudisch are developing technology that allows people to access personal content remotely. The Fiberio touchscreen recognizes individual fingerprints through a fibre optic panel. Images are projected from underneath the panel where an infrared light is placed. This technology results in biometric scanning with FBI-level identifying capabilities. Holz and Baudisch hope to rework the software and eliminate the use of the projector in order to make the system more ubiquitous.
The fingerprint sensing touchpad is also the first to recognize multiple touch points. The related video demonstrates how this technology could be used to simplify banking procedures.
