Artist Phillip Estlund has put together a series of sculptural fiberglass seat designs that are simultaneously works of art and functional furniture pieces. The chairs feature a minimalist and colorful structure complete with collaged cutouts that are adhered to the fiberglass surface to create a collaged aesthetic. Each chair is made by hand by Estlund so that each piece is one-of-a-kind.
The chairs revive the retro art form of decoupage, where the pieces are decorated with paper or magazine cutouts and arranged accordingly and with intent as a way of repurposing the illustrations. The seats feature cut outs of items such as flowers, plants and foliage giving the chairs a botanical theme that would be perfect to add to patios or outdoor settings. The chairs give off the look that the owner made it themselves, while they were in fact pre-made.
