Boundary-Breaking Musicians

Fefe Dobson Shared Her Struggles & Determination to Overcome Them

Trend Hunter met with Canadian singer-songwriter Fefe Dobson (Felicia Lily Dobson) to learn about her progression in music over the past 13 years. Her story is one of determination, drive and passion, which lead to a state of contentment and joy.

Dobson has been performing for her family since she was very young. The passion was always there and, at the age of 15 she decided to propose her demos to record companies. Some of them didn't take her seriously at first, but when she did get a break, she was faced with more struggles.

Since the sound of her music didn't match the expectations of her image, Dobson was often faced with difficulty at the early stages of her music career. Despite the challenge, Dobson continued to press on and go after her dream, making every effort to break down those stereotypes despite being advised to take another direction.

By being vulnerable in front her fans, being real in her music and letting her inspirations keep her motivated, she continues to put her creative personality into her music. Her advice to struggling musicians who are also taking risks to break down limitations is to know that some success stories are longer than others; it takes time. She believes that taking the hard times with the good gives life a good balance as long as you view it with a positive perspective.
