Much has been made about delivery drones, but the E-Novia YAPE robot is looking to take automated deliveries out of the sky and onto the roads. The robot can transport heavy packages through diverse terrains, and it uses facial recognition technology to ensure that the right person receives their package every time.
Though drone delivery is certainly effective in terms of speed, its biggest drawback is that, at the moment, drones aren't nearly strong enough to be able to reliable carry heavy packages over long distances. The ground-bound E-Novia YAPE (which stands for Your Autonomous Pony Express) can carry up to 154 pounds, meaning that it can carry out several deliveries in a single run. With a top speed of 20 kilometers per hour, it's far slower than a drone, but that increased capacity makes is more efficient as a whole.
