Swedish designer Johan Lindstén is showcasing these picturesque embroidered chairs (called Embroidery Chairs) at the 2010 Stockholm Furniture Fair. Scenes of idyllic country life were hand embroidered and then mounted onto the upholstered backrests of white wooden seats.
Through the embroidered chairs, Lindstén wanted to highlight what he says are the hours, days, weeks and years that "women in the older generations spent on embroidery to catch an idyll view." In essence, the artist is using the embroidered chairs to elevate what is seen sometimes as kitschy creation to art with sentimental and aesthetic value.
