SoCalGas Incorporated New Ford E-Transit Electric Vans into Its Fleet

SoCalGas — also known as the Southern California Gas Company — has incorporated new Ford E-Transit electric vans into its fleet as part of its ASPIRE 2045 sustainability initiative. This plan will see the company convert half of its on-road vehicles to alternative fuels by 2025 and achieve a completely zero-emissions fleet by 2035. The recent addition of these 21-battery electric vans marks the company’s first step towards integrating electric vehicles into its operations.

By the end of 2023, 38% of SoCalGas’ fleet operated on low- and zero-emission energy sources, including 700 service pickup trucks using renewable natural gas and 50 hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. The company is also working with Ford and the Department of Energy to develop a hydrogen fuel cell prototype for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, aiming for real-world testing by 2025. The light-duty electric vans have a range of up to 126 miles and are used for servicing industrial and commercial clients.
