Upcycled Explorer Lights

The Egg of Columbus Turns Paper Pulp into Contemporary Lighting Fixtures

The Egg of Columbus is perhaps the most uniquely named eco-friendly lamp ever created. Italian designer Valentina Carretta created the lamp using recyclable paper (like the paper used to make egg cartons). In addition to the paper, the lamps feature a ceramic lamp holder and a light cord made out of red fabric.

The Egg of Columbus gets its unique name from the popular story about how famed explorer Christopher Columbus challenged his detractors by asking them to stand an egg up straight (he smashed the egg's tip and stood it up after they failed). The Egg of Columbus manages to combine contemporary design with eco-friendly practices. The result is a lamp that actually looks good and is good for the environment.
