Produce-Growing Preschools

This Eco-Friendly Preschool Doubles as an Urban Farm

Architects Gabriele Capobianco, Edoardo Capuzzo Dolcetta, Jonathan Lazar and Davide Troiani recently proposed a design for an eco-friendly preschool that doubles as an urban farm. While many children learn about the environment in the comfort of their classroom, this school offers a more hands-on type of lesson.

Instead of a small plot on the corner of the property, the eco-friendly preschool consists of a series of classrooms set up between expansive fields. The design is based on the idea that children are naturally curious about plants and animals, making an urban garden the perfect way to keep kids engaged. In addition to growing vegetables and tending to livestock, the school also allows children to learn about sustainable technology such as wind and solar power.

The new school demonstrates how sustainability can be an integral part of the classroom setting rather than just an afterthought.
