There's something about the sight of seeing a school student eat lunch alone that's remarkably sad and poignant, and that's because it's a scene that many kids who have suffered from loneliness can easily relate to. For that reason, it's taken innovative thinking on the part of a school student to result in the creation of the 'Sit With Us' app, that allows students to communicate to others that they're happy to join them for lunch.
Developed by 16-year-old Natalie Hampton, the app allows students to label themselves 'ambassadors', in effect letting other students know that it's safe to sit with them if they don't want to eat lunch alone.
Through the simple act of giving a student companionship during lunchtime, the Sit With Us app aims to make big strides in battling loneliness and bullying in school.
