Denver-based Connor Wood Bicycles recently introduced a new mountain bike named DURT -- which stands for Denver Urban Reclaimed Tree -- that brings together the beauty and elegance of reclaimed local wood with the strength and performance of Kevlar fiber.
Like Connor Wood Bicycles' other offerings, each DURT bike is individually handmade and sculpted and given a marine spar varnish to protect it from the elements.
The DURT mountain bike has an American white ash frame and black walnut center, with layers of Kevlar sandwiched in between wood in the rear triangle of the bike. Stress-prone areas have been hollowed out and lined with carbon fiber for increased strength without added weight. The end result is a mountain bike that weighs only around 30 kg and rides like a breeze.
