Global design and architecture firm HOK has rendered a futuristic and avant-garde design in honor of the Dubai World Expo Site in year 2020. Being the first Middle Eastern country to have the luxury of hosting the World Expo, it is very apparent that the design firm takes this seriously. The Expo occupies a 1,082 acre site featuring photovoltaic panels on the building’s exterior used to generate electricity through solar radiation converted into usable electricity, providing up to 50% of the combined energy usage of the structure.
Taking inspiration from the UAE’s bidding theme, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,’ HOK has designed an incredibly sophisticated design that embraces the deep-rooted history and heritage of the region, while looking towards the future with its innovative designs. The site features three pavilions that symbolize and represent opportunity, mobility or flexibility and sustainability. The three pavilions are connected to a central hub that features the main plaza.
