The DroneDefender is a new weapon, developed by Battelle, that is essentially a shoulder-mounted rifle that can be used to known unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs down. Interestingly, this rifle doesn't use bullets or lasers but instead employs radio waves to knock drones offline.
The weapon weighs around 10 pounds and can easily target drones up to 400 meters away. When the trigger is pulled, the gun emits electromagnetic energy tuned to the most common ISM and GPS frequencies. This safely disables the drone and stops it from accepting additional commands from its operator.
Aside from obvious military applications, the DroneDefender can be used in everything from schools and hospitals to prisons and historic sites as a safe security measure. As drones become more commonplace, security measures to stop errant and mischievous drones are also required and that's exactly what the DroneDefender offers.
