New Zealand has just upped its credit for sci-fi fans everywhere. The New Zealand Mint and BBC Worldwide Australia have created Doctor Who coins to celebrate Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary.
The coin, which is a one-ounce silver .999 model features an embossed image of the tardis and a 50th anniversary logo. What’s also unique about the Doctor Who coins is that they come packaged in a specially commissioned 3D model of the tardis, which even makes special noises when you open the door.
The coins are actual legal tender and are worth $2 in the South Pacific Island Niue. New Zealand officials plan to release more Doctor Who coins later in the year featuring the 11 doctors who have been featured in the longest running sci-fi show in history.
