Aussies Take the Plunge to Beat the Summer Heat

Australia is experiencing record summer temperatures and this is giving rise to a new type of gathering: Dive-in movies.

On the 30th of January, the Whittlesea Swim Center in the southern Australian state of Victoria presented its inaugural 'Dive-In Movies' night.

Organizers were encouraging moviegoers to slip into their swimsuits and bring along their chairs or banana lounges in order to enjoy an outdoor film in either the pool or by the poolside.

Mark Smith reported in the Whittlesea Leader that the Dive-In, "will include the projection of family-friendly films from an inflatable screen at the deep end of the swimming pool, giving residents the option of catching a flick while wading in the water or relaxing poolside."

Some attendees say that reports of an audience 300 strong for Whittlesea’s first Dive-In may have been watered down.
