There a a handful of wearable device systems that are capable of providing insights into one's emotional state, but a system that is being developed by USC Dornsife and USC Viterbi specifically measures matters of the heart.
The mobile sensing system has the potential to "give couples the power to anticipate each other’s emotional states and adapt behavior." Ultimately, the system aims to provide ways for people to de-escalate or avoid heated situations, simply by taking notice of the cues that the body gives off.
As it stands, the researchers are working on an algorithm that will be able to analyze data from a variety of sources, including wearables, smartphones and physiological signals. With this information, the team of researchers hopes to be able to implement a system that will be useful for reducing conflict. As the project describes: "What if technology could automatically send you a notification advising you to do a short meditation module to restore your mental state?"
