Deepfake technology first drew headlines after it was used to replace the faces of performers in adult films, but a quartet of researchers from UC Berkley have recently used the technology for good and have created deepfake dancing. By utilizing AI, this new program is able to read the dance moves of one subject and place them onto a target body. This will then make it seem like the target is dancing the same way as the subject without disturbing the clothing or appearance of the target.
The deepfake dancing program does currently have a few limitations. The neural network and AI can't accurately model loose fabrics yet, so users are forced to wear tight clothing. There are also a few visual anomalies caused by the AI but for the most part, the reproduced dancing is fairly accurate and compelling.
