IKEA has stated that it will work to produce a dedicated business unit, to bolster its smart home products. The business unit will expand on the company’s smart home product line which was launched in 2012 -- the line's products focused on wireless charging units as well as smart light technology.
Along with the dedicated business unit, the company announced that it will continue to work on creating smart home technology. Björn Block, a prominent figure at IKEA made a statement on its direction, "At IKEA we want to continue to offer products for a better life at home for the many people going forward," Block also indicates that the company will continue to provide things that go further than conventional furniture.
It's clear that IKEA sees smart home technology as a big part of the future of the company.
