The Dave Flores 'Deathead Mickey' is a gritty and dark rendering of the classically wholesome and cheery cartoon icon.
As part of the 'Bad News Travels Fast' exhibition, the pop culture figure has been drastically transformed from an innocent goofball to a seriously bad-ass character. Mickey appears in the collection as a skeleton adorned in leather, often pictured riding a chopper with a gold tooth to cement his tough-guy image.
The recreations will be featured on everything from pillows, prints and t-shirts as well as a 5-foot sculpture constructed from fiberglass and a collection of limited edition vinyl toys. The cartoon homages will be on display until the end of April at the Toy Art Gallery in Hollywood, CA.
