The Daihatsu Copen is a recognizable two-door roadster that first made an appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1999. In the near future, this popular model is going to become revitalized with 3D printing technology.
Currently, Japan's oldest car manufacturer, Daihatsu is working with designers and 3D modeling artists in order to create a set of 15 3D-printed 'Effect Skins' with a Stratasys Fortus printer. This project means that consumers will have the chance to customize the look of their cars in the future with a variety of patterns, colors and textures on the front and rear bumpers and fenders of the Daihatsu Copen car.
Daihatsu’s Osamu Fujishita says: "We’re interested in expanding the market for customized plastic-bodied cars, and we see Stratasys 3D printing technology as extremely effective for this."
