Currys, a UK-based tech retailer, has invested in a new series of robotic exoskeleton suits to help GXO employees move big objects with less strain on their joints and muscles. This will allow workers to deliver over 8.7 million stock units to stores this Black Friday without compromising on safety. The robotic suits, worn like tiny backpacks, provide colleagues with at least 10 tonnes of comfort over a regular work shift.
The waterproof exoskeleton is crafted using ultralight carbon fiber and has an AI-based Smart Safety Companion ergonomics system that can detect early indicators of bad posture and improper lifting techniques, avoiding future injuries on the job.
"As the number one technology retailer in the UK, we aim to have state-of-the-art tech throughout our supply chain. Combining this with our priority to support our colleagues is why we have invested in these exoskeletons at our Newark distribution centre," said Lindsay Haselhurst, Currys Chief Operating Officer.
