Scientists at the University of Rochester are developing a cloak of invisibility. Unlike Harry Potter's cloak, the Rochester cloaking device renders partial invisibility with help from science and not magic.
Using a combination of four ordinary lenses, the scientists can bend light around an object. This does not distort the background and makes it appear as if the object is not there.
Researcher and grad student Joseph Choi explains "From what we know this is the first cloaking device that provides three-dimensional, continuously multi-directing cloaking." It appears that this technology is a ways off from being able to provide consumers with a cloak of invisibility, but the optometrics of it is certainly nothing short of magical.
