Fashion imprint Children of the Discordance introduces its newest collection designed for the Spring/Summer 2023 season. It takes on the name AREA AREA and it is inspired by designer Hideaki Shikama and his memories of Yokohama. This shaped who he is today and it translates through a range of patchwork jackets, vests, pants, knits, and bandanas. These are styled in playful patterns of graffiti and paisley prints -- during the 90s, the city of Yokohama was a place described to be a culture "culture swayed by West Coast persuasion of music, art, and cars."
The designer explains, "The main inspiration for SS23 is Yokohama, the city where I was born and raised. I spent the 90s in this city and I incorporated elements of Yokohama 90’s culture in every detail of the collection [...] As a harbor town located west of Tokyo, Yokohama is home to American West Coast culture, reggae, and hip-hop. I learned a lot of culture in Yokohama."
