Chetna Organic, also known as the Chetna Organic & Fair Trade Cotton Intervention Program (OCIP), is a co-operative that has set out to improve the lives of small farmers in India through venture philanthropy rather than charity. The program produced two separate farmer-owned entities: the Chetna Organic Farmers Association (COFA) and the Chetna Organic Agriculture Producer Company Ltd (COAPCL).
Founded in 2004, Chetna Organic seeks to enable ethical supplies chains by both increasing access to fair trade markets and supporting farmers in terms of profitability and sustainability. Chetna also works with similarly oriented organizations internationally in order to create a global market that supports organic and fair trade products within developing nations, as well as creating and maintaining farm systems aligned with those values within India.
