Sex education activist Danielle Sepulveres recently teamed up with illustrator Maritza Lugo to design a series of Disney prints that promote Cervical Health Awareness Month. While the Disney princesses have been transformed in many different ways over the years, this is the first time their images have been used to promote women's reproductive health.
The illustrations feature iconic Disney princesses such as Belle, Jasmine and Mulan visiting the OB-GYN. In each image, the princesses are seen caring for their reproductive health by doing things such as getting blood draw, picking up emergency contraception and getting the HPV vaccine. Sepulveres came up with the idea of using the Disney princesses because of the lack of awareness about Cervical Health Awareness Month.
With more than 79 million American women affected by HPV and cervical cancer, the ads help to bring women's reproductive health to mainstream media.
