With the advent of cyber-bullying and the attention that some celebrities are now giving to related campaigns, anti-bullying campaigns like Celebrate the Hero (CTH) are welcome and offer something a little different. The initiative, which is a long-term four-step program for students and teachers, was created by Nick Foley, a teacher, public speaker and author of 'Act Like You've Been There: Rules For My Brother.'
"Our interactive, engaging and informative presentations encompass positive choices, the importance of getting involved and celebrating individuals who refrain from harming the wellbeing of others," reads the CTH website. "Through our seminars we provide the tools and understanding that allows people to become aware of the consequences that their words and/or actions might have on people." What's more, the program generally involves a presentation, the appointing of school leaders, weekly thoughts sent to a teacher liaison, a follow-up and a copy of the published book.
What's refreshing about this resource is that it creates a connection with the school, which allows for change to happen gradually, and through crucial dialogue amongst peers. Here, the bottom line is to draw attention to, that is, celebrate, those who are positive through quotidian actions.
