Mike Sheldrake is not a designer or someone with any surfboard building trade skills, but he built his own surfboard anyway. Sheldrake turned to the Internet for research and came up with a 3D modeling software to design a snap-together hollow model with intersecting ribs for a cardboard-core surfboard made out of paper-corrugated slats. The almost 400 slats are wrapped in fiberglass cloth and hardened with epoxy resin.
Implications - Since there were so many slats to cut, Mike Sheldrake used a computer-controller saw to help him with the work. The finished product has a pattern of triangles and hexagons and looks very impressive. The featured images show Sheldrake on the beach with his board, riding the waves with ease.
