AT&T and T-Mobile have started call verification in order to protect customers from intrusive spam calls. The call verification will soon be rolled out between the two networks. Calls from the other network will now show a "Caller Verified" message to the person receiving the call. The call verification feature comes as a result of the FCC ruling that call authentication will have to be implemented by the close of 2019.
AT&T and T-Mobiles' new system works with the SHAKEN/STIR standard. The standard is able to verify if calls are spam calls, or from an authentic person. T-Mobile introduced the SHAKEN/STIR standard in January, in order to screen for spam calls within its own network. Previously AT&T and Comcast entered into a similar partnership to reduce spam calls between the respective networks.
