Data-Transmitting Lighting Systems

Alexandre Picciotto and Oledcomm Introduce the C-224 Lamp

Alexandre Picciotto is a student at ÉCAL and recently collaborated with French technology label Oledcomm on the C-224 Lamp. The lighting system is a LiFi piece designed specifically for library usage. It transmits data using LEDs, emitting a visual light wave towards devices with the specific dongle. The piece also infuses infrared emitters in order to send the data using invisible light to ensure that the LiFi connectivity still functions when the light is off. LiFi technology was first developed by Professor Harald Haas at the University of Edinburgh and is recently making its way onto commercial ventures.

The C-224 Lamp allows up to four hotspot connections and its light diffuser structure is made to completely cover the designated library table with both illumination and network connectivity. Its head is constructed from aluminum with a Plexiglass Satinice diffuser in order to evenly distribute light and the infrared component is coated with four mirror-treated glass sections to protect the human eye.
