BURN Manufacturing is a social enterprise aiming to be the sole manufacturer of high quality biomass stoves in Kenya and East Africa. The clean burning cookstoves are designed by the BURN Design Lab (BDL), with whom BURN Manufacturing has an exclusive licensing relationship.
BURN Manufacturing endeavors to provide a cleaner alternative to stoves powered by wood, charcoal and other fuels used by many in developing nations to boil water and cook food, a process that is often destructive to the environment and can lead to respiratory diseases. The BURN stoves also substantially cut down on fuel costs and improves health conditions.
BMC is currently raising funds to establish a "modern continuous-flow manufacturing facility in Kenya with satellite assembly factories" in Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, according to its website. BURN Manufacturing was named as one of seven in the first successful class from Seattle-based social enterprise incubator Fledge.
