Student Brittny Badger explored how household and kitchen appliances are taken for granted in her senior thesis for Hartford Art School. In her photography series, Badger features images of household devices that have been completely taken apart and reduced to a series of mechanical parts. The aerial photography series makes you realize the amount of work, effort, money, time and labor that go into making everyday devices.
In the series, Badger offers viewers the chance to see inside the inner workings of many day-to-day appliances. Badger began her project by deconstructing an electric hand mixer and realizing that the insides of many appliances are actually more intriguing and visually stimulating than the minimalist outer shell. To date, Badger has gutted a sandwich maker, can opener, coffee maker, juicer and popcorn maker.
