This Technology Allows British Royal Navy Boats To Be Upgraded

The British Royal Navy is set to implement an autonomous navy technology, developed by BAE Systems, that allows for existing Rigid Inflatable Boats to be retrofitted to turn them into autonomous, high speed reconnaissance and surveillance crafts.

What's great about this system is that it makes it possible to integrate the technology into existing navy small boats. The robotic boats will be able to hit speeds of up to 70 km/h and operate for up to 12 hours at a range of 40 km from the ship. It can be controlled by a regular human pilot or indeed by a hand-held remote controller, but can also operate in completely autonomous fashion without a human helping hand.

Ultimately, this retrofitted autonomous boat technology gives the British Royal Navy a significant tactical advantage in its surveillance and wartime operations.
