Blackwater (now known as Xe Services) has been the subject of more controversy, conspiracy theories and Congressional handouts than any other corporation in the business. Responsible for providing supplemental security in the hotspots of Iraq and Afghanistan, Blackwater mercenaries drew worldwide attention after a slew of wanton massacres and illegal civilian killings. Now, the company is making a game about it all.
Entitled simply Blackwater, the video game intends to make use of the Xbox 360's motion-sensing features to build an engaging, arcade-style shooter. Xe Services founder Erik Prince explains that the video game will avoid controversy, "child killing" or moral dilemmas. So how will a video game about the world's biggest mercenary group unfold? Developer Zombie Studios explains that it'll take place in a fictitious West African nation where Blackwater agents are tasked with protecting aids workers from the nefarious warlord General Limbano.
Prince elaborates that the game isn't intended to repair Blackwater's universally reviled reputation, but to make an enjoyable, fun game for kids.
