This black ice cream has a macabre look but a sweet taste. Available in New York City from Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream, their new coconut ash flavor has joined the menu as a special flavor.
Jet black in color, the unusual ice cream is made from "charred and processed remains of a coconut shell" according to founder Nick Morgenstern. Coconut ash is also apparently a form of activated charcoal, which can also be found in some detoxifying beauty products. The very coconuty black ice cream is made with coconut cream, coconut flakes and coconut milk.
Unlike other black food items that typically use squid ink to get that gothic effect, this summery treat goes a different route to get a similarly Instagram-able look.
