The Birmingham Opera Company Prepares for a Helicopter Show

The Birmingham Opera Company is preparing to amaze aerial audiences at the London 2012 festival, a cultural affair that will accompany the Olympics come August. The chosen performance will be a rendition of Karlheinz Stockhausen opera's 'Mittwoch aug Licht,' an extremely complex piece that has yet to be fully performed. As if this wasn't difficult enough on its own, the group is set to perform a condensed version of the recital while on board four helicopters.

The show will surely blow the minds of listeners, if not for the helicopter's own sounds, which will be intentionally incorporated into the masterpiece. Although the organization is still in search of an appropriate landing zone that can accommodate the quartet and pilot crew (inclusive of audio technicians), the spectacle will be broadcast live on The Space, a BBC digital arts channel. For those who appreciate a tricky operation, be sure to tune in.
