Disposable Drone Prototypes

This Biodegradable Drone Concept is Made Out of Mushroom Materials

If you are passionate about both technology and the environment, this biodegradable drone will likely interest you. The concept comes from a team of researchers from Brown, Stanford and Spelman College. The disposable drone decomposes into sugar after it flies. Designed in collaboration with Ecovative, the drone is made out of mushrooms and will break down naturally if it does not need to return.

An entrant in the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition, the biodegradable drone was conceived by students, scientists and graduates. Composed of mycelium, the prototype could have a number of uses. This includes as a delivery drone. It could also reach places humans cannot and explore without leaving a lasting or harmful environmental impact.
