Environmentally Focused Artworks

'Beyond Form' Criticizes the Global Response to Climate Change

'Beyond Form' is an art installation on display at the 2016 Venice Biennale, an art exhibition that primarily focuses on architecture. The work, by German architect and artist Werner Sobek, is a pointed statement about the global response to climate change, and it encourages the architects at the exhibition to consider not just the form of their buildings, but also the environmental impact (hence the choice of 'Beyond Form' as a name.)

The installation is a massive white cube that appears to levitate just above the ground. All around the cube is black print in a small font that, when examined, turns out to be the Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change translated into 12 languages. The cube is partially covered by a black fabric veil.
