The cardboard signs flashed by homeless people to grab the attention of passersby sadly annoy more than anything else, yet the Behind the Sign project hopes to change that. Instead of ignoring these messages, whether sarcastic, witty or downright sad, due to desensitization, this student-run initiative hopes to raise awareness as well as money for those in need.
Created by Sine Marie Harwits and Neil Lopez, Behind the Sign will take the form of an auction on eBay that will be held between September 14 to the 24. Five signs will be put up and will be accompanied by a mini book detailing the artist's personal story. Proceeds from Behind the Sign will be donated to The Doe Fund, an organization aiming to provide long-term solutions for the homeless.
